Incorporation of low-carbon urea into the
Sulfammo 26 fertiliser recipe
An emerging trend in the fertiliser market, ‘low-carbon’
raw materials are manufactured using processes that
reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This complements the already effective use of industrial
byproducts, such as ammonia sulphate, which already has
a reduced emission factor. In 2024, the company moved
to the next level by identifying even lower-emission
outlet channels for this raw material. At the same time,
TIMAC AGRO has sourced ‘low-carbon’ urea, whose
ammonia content is no longer derived from natural gas,
but from biomethane. In September 2024, the f irst batch
of ‘low-carbon’ urea was delivered to the Pischelsdorf
plant in Austria for the production of pelletised nitrogen
fertilisers. This new source of urea reduces greenhouse
gas emissions by a factor of four compared with
conventional urea (cradle to gate).
