Groupe Roullier and Energy Observer partnership: exploring for a sustainable future
In 2025, the Groupe Roullier signed a three-year partnership with Energy Observer, the first hydrogen vessel with positive energy and a real floating laboratory for low-carbon innovations. More than a global symbol of the energy transition, Energy Observer embodies a vision: to experiment, decipher and raise awareness of the solutions that will shape the future. Learn more.
This partnership is at the heart of the Roullier Group’s CSR strategy by supporting concrete solutions to meet environmental challenges. It also includes a scientific dimension, in collaboration with the Roullier World Innovation Center, through:
- Samples of marine micro-organisms taken during expeditions,
- Sharing data to feed our research and innovation work.
A partnership fully aligned with the Roullier Group’s CSR strategy
Supporting Energy Observer means reinforcing Commitment 2: “Let’s contribute to the fight against climate change” of the CSR strategy.
Through this collaboration, the Groupe Roullier:
- supports concrete solutions to reduce the carbon footprint,
- creates synergies with leaders in the energy transition to accelerate the energy transition,
- promotes its actions in soil preservation, sustainable resource management and natural carbon capture.
“By joining the Energy Observer adventure, we want to give more visibility to our actions in the field and show that concrete solutions exist.”
Florie Guillon, CSR Director of the Groupe Roullier
A scientific partnership with the Centre Mondial de l’Innovation Roullier
During the stopovers, the scientific teams of the Centre Mondial de l’Innovation Roullier collaborate with the crew to conduct research on the natural mechanisms of carbon capture and marine biodiversity.
Marine microorganisms: a source of inspiration for the agronomy of tomorrow
The Energy Observer teams are building, in cooperation, the Centre Mondial de l’Innovation Roullier:
- samples in various areas to study the capacity of marine microorganisms to capture and transform carbon. Biomimicry occupies a central place here: observing nature to imagine products with high added value for agriculture and soil life,
- analyses and observations on the marine environment and its biodiversity to feed research and innovation work in order to open up the field of possibilities in terms of solutions from marine resources.
Energy Observer’s 2025–2033 expedition: an exploration around 7 major missions
The new Energy Observer expedition will run until 2033 and will focus on seven major themes:
- Carbon capture : exploring natural and industrial approaches to carbon capture, storage and valorization
- Sustainable mobility : exploring low-carbon transport solutions.
- Strategic Materials & Circular Economy : Studying the Circularity of Essential Materials.
- Artificial Intelligence and Energy Transition : Analysing the Role of AI in Energy Optimisation.
- Fossil, renewable and nuclear energies : comparing the possible mixes and their impacts.
- Water – Access to a vital resource : protecting essential resources.
- Arctic World Tour – Climate Change Resilience : Observing the Effects of Global Warming in the Polar Regions.
This expedition aims to raise awareness, experiment and share concrete solutions to accelerate the energy transition and achieve carbon neutrality.
