Extra-Financial Performance Report 2020 Groupe Roullier A GROUP WITH REAL COMMITMENT Extra-Financial Performance Report 2020 Groupe Roullier A GROUP WITH REAL COMMITMENT 51 50 3 QUESTIONS FOR… Julie Agaësse What is your definition of responsible purchasing? I’d describe it as a virtuous purchasing strategy that systematically considers the full life cycle of the product or service value chain, addressing the full range of environmental, social and societal criteria. Thinking holistically about total lifetime cost in this way encourages long-term thinking and ultimately aims to achieve the right balance between all the parties involved. We don’t see responsible purchasing as an additional cost, but rather as anticipating future costs, and as an opportunity we can seize on that will have positive outcomes not only for the Purchasing department, but for every part of the Group and all our stakeholders. What are the next steps in rolling out your policy to all buyers? The policy is an important first step, because it is the bedrock of our collective commitment. Next, we plan to create a guide listing all the initiatives implemented in subsidiary companies, which will then be shared transparently with them to encourage the exchange of good practices and forward development of the policy. The initial rollout will focus on France, but we hope to extend it internationally very soon after that. Our task then will be to raise awareness of all these measures among our employees - our ‘internal customers’ as we refer to them - so that they can take them on board and begin to get a new perspective on their own requirements. Why did you decide to build a Responsible Purchasing Policy to be shared by all business lines? This initiative is a direct result of the Group’s commitment to CSR, which we’re adapting operationally within the Purchasing function. As with CSR, our intention is to build a common base that will unite the entire purchasing community so that we are all moving forwards in the same direction. So everyone will be able to start from this base level of commitment to roll out initiatives within their own scope of responsibility and experience. Over and above the ability to create this united base, the policy successfully addresses 3 key goals: to contribute to the overall performance of the Group and its subsidiary companies by creating sustainable value as the basis for building balanced relationships with our suppliers and developing innovative partnerships. RESPONSIBLE PURCHASING Responsible purchasing is an opportunity to create sustainable value for the company.“ ZOOM #1 PÂTISSERIES GOURMANDES FOCUSES ON QUALITY AND LOCAL SOURCING As part of guaranteeing the consistency and quality of its products, Pâtisseries Gourmandes brand Ker Cadélac is extremely careful about its choice of suppliers, and applies uncompromisingly rigorous selection criteria. Wherever possible, it sources its raw materials from France, and prefers to work with suppliers close to its production facilities, particularly when it comes to its main ingredients of flour, eggs and rapeseed oil. Flour, which is the largest ingredient in pastries and biscuits, is sourced exclusively from millers located within 125 miles, and is ground from wheat grown in France. In sourcing its eggs, the brand encourages free range farming and is committed to using only eggs from uncaged hens by 2025 at the latest . In terms of oil, it prefers rapeseed for its naturally high levels of Omega 3, and again, the majority is sourced directly from French producers. Lastly, Pâtisseries Gourmande conducts regular audits to ensure that its suppliers comply fully with all current French and European regulations governing animal welfare, product origin and hygiene standards. ZOOM #2 NUWEN’S LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIPS WITH SEAWEED HARVESTERS NUWEN has been harvesting seaweed in Brittany (France) ever since the business began in 1985, because this local resource is essential to the creation of its products. Harvesting is outsourced to a close-knit network of around thirty partner seaweed harvesters accredited by the Brittany Region Committee for Marine Fisheries and Fish Farms (Comité Régional des Pêches Maritimes et des Élevages Marins de Bretagne - CRPMEM) for their compliance with good harvesting practices and adherence to biomass conservation codes and practices. As well as maintaining its close and loyal partnerships with seaweed harvesters, NUWEN also contributes to the development of the seaweed industry through its involvement in the Seaweed and Marine Plants Trade Federation of seaweed harvesting and processing companies, the majority of which are based in Brittany. This involvement enables NUWEN to work alongside its suppliers to conserve resources and ensure the long-term future of the body of expertise around the harvesting of seaweed.
